NOTE

Genetics, family environment, and the importance of evidence in understanding human behavior

Your appearance, including symmetrical facial features and high cheekbones, can influence how people treat you and make you happier. This research cannot differentiate between direct and indirect effects of genes or distinguish the impact of mean parents versus living in a mean neighborhood. Adoption research shows that family environment and peer connections both have small effects. Meeting the right people in a certain environment often matters more than simply being in that environment. While anything is possible, implausible claims require stronger evidence to be considered seriously.
