Metaphysical vs Physical Desire
Human desires can be categorized into metaphysical desire, which is focused on what objects say about an individual, and physical desire, which is focused on the experience provided by the object itself. Examples, such as pursuing sex for pleasure or intimacy (physical desire) versus pursuing it to validate one's identity (metaphysical desire), highlight this distinction. Similarly, buying a car for convenience (physical desire) versus buying it to project a certain image and seek admiration (metaphysical desire) illustrate the difference between the two types of desires.
