#646 - The Assumption of Mary: Protestant Critique (REBUTTED)

The Counsel of Trent

NOTE

Whether or not she died?

Doctor ortland is correct that there is no affirmation of an assumption into heaven, but this passage also does not contradict belief in mary being assumed. In fact, if the tradition that spread about mary was only that she was assumed bodily into heaven, then you'd expect all these disputes over whether she died or not. After all, for nearly all the apostles, you don't find people debating about whether or not they died. The only exception is john, because of a misunderstanding of what jesus said about john being alive until the second coming,. which was immediately straightened out in john 21 23. So the mere fact people are debating this counts in favour of the claim there
