Focus on What a Thing Does
Categorization in biology, as in life, can be limiting because it reflects a creationist view of defining what a thing is rather than focusing on what a thing does. Biological classification and taxonomy may be useful for identifying functional differences, but it overlooks the complexity, beauty, and transitional nature of biology described by Darwin. Instead of getting caught up in categorization, the emphasis should be on understanding the functions and capabilities of organisms.
