NOTE

Benefits of Omega-3 Fatty Acids from Fish Consumption and Supplementation

Consuming omega-3 fatty acids from fish during pregnancy has been linked to better neural outcomes and improved intelligence in children. Studies have shown that omega-3 fatty acids protect against neurotoxicity and are correlated with higher intelligence, while the presence of mercury in fish does not negatively impact intelligence when omega-3 is present. Wild caught salmon is a recommended low-mercury, high omega-3 fish option. Additionally, supplementing with 1.5 to 2 grams of omega-3 fatty acids per day can significantly increase the omega-3 index and potentially increase life expectancy.
