Living for Longevity — with Dan Buettner
The Prof G Pod with Scott Galloway
Two ways of measuring happiness
Happiness can be measured through two scientific methods: life satisfaction and affect. Life satisfaction involves individuals rating their overall life on a scale from one to ten, reflecting a retrospective evaluation. Conversely, affect gauges happiness through a time-sequenced analysis of emotional experiences, such as laughter and stress. Notably, while new parents typically experience a significant decline in affect due to challenges like exhaustion and financial strain, their life satisfaction often increases, illustrating a complex, dynamic relationship between these two measures of happiness.
