Genetic Disorders of Copper Metabolism and Copper Deficiency

There are two genetic disorders of copper metabolism: Manx disease and Wilson's disease. While they can appear as copper deficiency, urine copper levels can help differentiate them. The best solution for copper deficiency is to address the root cause, whether it's an absorption problem or inadequate copper-rich foods. Top copper-rich foods include liver, oysters, shiitake mushrooms, chocolate, and spirulina. Other good sources include non-wild shellfish, whole grains, legumes, and potatoes. Eating more of these foods is crucial as the copper form in food differs from supplements.
