Omega 3 Fatty Acids and Neuroprotective Effects in Pregnant Women

In a study published in the American Journal of Pediatrics, it was found that omega-3 fatty acids in fish can protect against neurotoxicity in children, leading to better neural outcomes and improved intelligence. Mercury levels were used as a biomarker, but it was shown that the beneficial effects of omega-3 outweighed any potential toxic effects from mercury. Eating fish like wild-caught salmon, which is low in mercury and high in omega-3, is recommended. Supplementing omega-3 is also important, as it can increase life expectancy by 5 years.
