NOTE

Understanding Muscle Damage: Less Isn't Always More

The concept that longer muscle lengths during training lead to increased muscle damage and that this is inherently negative is under scrutiny. Research indicates that isometric exercises performed at longer muscle lengths lead to more fatigue compared to shorter lengths. This is supported by physiological mechanisms such as calcium ion activity and fascial compression, which contribute to fatigue and delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) being more pronounced in lengthened positions. However, the concerns surrounding muscle damage may be exaggerated, particularly among individuals who are not accustomed to such training adaptations.
