Balancing Ratings and Intuition in Decision Making
Using both ratings from data and intuition at the end of the process was found to be the best approach for making predictions. The combination of ratings and final intuition was as effective as the average of six traits and it added valuable information. As a recommendation, managers should make a list of skills and values for ratings, then form an overall impression of the candidate based on both the ratings and any additional information they may have gathered. This approach is seen as harnessing the best of both worlds from algorithms and human judgment, even though there is still puzzlement about the strong appeal of intuition in decision making.
