The song 'Centrelia' narrates the true story of a coal fire in Centrelia, Pennsylvania, which ignited in 1962 due to mysterious causes and spread through the extensive coal mining tunnels underneath the town. The fire, fueled by compressed carbon, remains unextinguished and is predicted to burn for another 250 years. This ongoing fire has led to the appearance of sinkholes, rendering the city uninhabitable and forcing the evacuation of the population from 1500 residents to only five. The story captivated the songwriter, who was informed by a friend from Pennsylvania and inspired to compose a song about the intriguing and tragic events in Centrelia.
Our second and final set of mini-stories for the season: We'll be covering upside-down construction, the linguistics of filler and a fire that has been burning for decades.
