Fructose is not needed for life

Fructose is completely vestigial to all vertebrate life, as there is no biochemical reaction in any vertebrate that requires dietary fructose. The capacity to process fructose is limited, similar to the limited capacity to metabolize alcohol. Just like the organ appendix, fructose has no function in the human body and is not needed for life.
