People who have experienced trauma often develop people-pleasing behaviors as a means of survival, learning to anticipate the needs of others, sometimes to the point of neglecting their own. This conditioning can manifest as emotional unavailability and a lack of self-awareness regarding personal preferences and desires. Individuals may find it challenging to express what they genuinely enjoy or need, often responding with uncertainty or blankness when inquired about their own feelings. This behavior may persist into adulthood, where the individual remains disconnected from their own identity. However, there is hope for transformation and self-discovery at any age, as individuals can reclaim their sense of self and prioritize their own needs, embracing their own joys and desires regardless of past experiences. The journey towards self-awareness and freedom can begin at any stage of life.
