The Jordan Harbinger Show

NOTE

The Impact of Sound on Health

This chapter examines the effects of noise and vibrations on health, particularly for forest workers and vulnerable populations like children. It blends serious insights with humor, reflecting on the absurdities of loud ultrasounds and their potential impact on unborn babies.

I'm also thinking yo you couldn't make earplugs out of a kleenex or something i mean it must have been super loud oh
Speaker 2
yeah at some point he's like all right that's it i'm done i want to know the track he came out to me
Speaker 1
too i just also like i'd rather go to federal prison in miami for the rest of my life than listen to another night of i don't know what is like metallica or whatever it was.
Speaker 2
Sounds like the average date I go on. Everyone hates metal so much. That's so funny. But beyond hearing impairment, sound can cause all sorts of issues in the body. One study I found pointed out that vibrations can cause structural damage and inflammation of nerves in forest workers with higher prevalence of Raynaud's phenomenon, which is a disorder that can cause reduced blood circulation to your fingers.
Speaker 1
Yikes. So is that because of all the chainsaws? Why are forest workers dealing with noise? I'm guessing just they're cutting down trees? Is that what's going on? Yeah,
Speaker 2
it's a combination of the noise and the vibration, which also causes damage to the circulatory system, nerves, joints, and bones. Yeah, exactly. So for example, a 250 hertz vibration could induce oxidative stress in nerves, leading to inflammation. And children and newborns are especially sensitive to sounds and vibrations. Some studies have even looked at the stress caused by baby carriers, such as a stroller, during transportation and its effect on a child's nervous system. While the research is limited, we know that in some adults, vibrations can lead to increased blood pressure, motion sickness, vomiting, and increased cranial pressure.

That sounds like some of the side effects of listening to this very podcast. You know, the sweetest sound to me is money hitting my bank account. So please support the fine products and services that support this show. We'll be right back. This episode is sponsored in part by Renew Youth. None of us can escape aging. It's coming for all of us. For men, this might mean testosterone replacement, estrogen control, other treatments to tackle symptoms like fatigue, low sex drive, weight gain. It starts with a free consultation. Then they'll order a blood panel, which is key. You can't fix what you don't measure. And this is the best way to see exactly where your levels are. From there, doctors will help design a plan that aligns with your goals. Renew Youth's team of experts will be with you every step of the way, answering your questions and supporting your journey.

Now back to Skeptical Sunday. I remember when my wife was pregnant, well, both times, they were doing ultrasounds and our doctor slash midwife, I think she was both. She said that they wanted to do them fast and only when needed because the sound of an ultrasound in the womb is like standing next to a subway train, except as a baby. So it's massively noisy and loud and maybe not good for you. And she's like, ah, it's not that bad, but it's also probably really annoying. And it's just kind of a funny thing to think of, like, you're just blasting your unborn baby with sound waves. And you're like, oh, look, it's a girl. So you think it's the cutest thing. And she's like, holy smokes, this massively loud noise right in my barely
