In 1667, Banye from Shiraz shared knowledge gained from Sanskrit texts he translated. He debated philosophy with a pundit, relating the Indian metaphor of God as a spider. Hume mentioned this analogy, but dismissed it. European interest in Indian works grew in the 19th century, with Colbrook translating mathematical and philosophical texts. Colbrook had a connection with philosopher John Stuart Mill.
