Emotional Intelligence Outweighs IQ in Leadership
Emotional intelligence competencies are significantly more important than cognitive abilities in predicting outstanding performance across jobs and levels. For top leaders, around 80 to 90% of key competencies fall within the realm of emotional intelligence. While a certain level of IQ is necessary to qualify for positions, it is the emotional and social skills that ultimately enable individuals to emerge as effective leaders. The emphasis on these distinguishing competencies becomes more pronounced as one ascends within an organization.
