The Cycle of Motivation, Burnout, and Self-Attack
Tim Urban explains in his TED talk that the cycle of motivation and burnout is like having a monkey on your shoulder. The monkey motivates you to work but also leads to procrastination and distractions. When the deadline approaches, you use it to find the motivation to get things done. This cycle can be related to various aspects of life, including depression and anxiety. On the other side of the cycle, when you're burnt out, your mind continues to attack you, keeping you stuck. CEO's recovery time after a big project is shorter when they don't beat themselves up compared to those who do. The difference between self-abuse and rest can greatly impact the time it takes to recover from burnout.
