The Importance of Stakes in Storytelling
Stakes in storytelling are what the audience should be concerned about, what they should be worried or wondering about. They keep the audience engaged and attentive. Stakes create a sense of anticipation and make the audience wonder about the outcome. Whether it's the fate of a character, the success of a company, or the outcome of a product, stakes are crucial in grabbing the audience's attention and keeping them invested in the story. Examples like the opening scene of Star Wars, where a small spaceship is being shot at by a big spaceship, showcase how stakes are established from the beginning to capture the audience's interest. Even in ordinary daily stories, it's important to incorporate stakes to make the storytelling more compelling and engaging.
