NOTE

Understanding how Dopamine works Using the Wave Pool Analogy

Two key things to understand about dopamine: dopamine peaks are triggered by specific behaviors or substances, and we have a baseline level of dopamine which serves as our reservoir. Our dopamine pool, which is used to create dopamine peaks, can either return to baseline or go lower, known as the trough. Dr. Kyle Gillette uses the analogy of a wave pool to explain dopamine. In the wave pool analogy, the waves represent the dopamine peaks of different heights and frequencies. If the waves are large and frequent, some dopamine can spill out and the baseline drops. However, if the peaks are small or infrequent, the baseline stays stable.
