Setting boundaries is crucial in relationships to reestablish independence and protect oneself from draining or codependent situations. It's valuable to see how people respond to boundaries, as it reveals their behavior and capabilities. Setting a boundary doesn't guarantee respect, but it clarifies limits and allows for appropriate responses based on others' actions. A boundary without consequences is ineffective and must be upheld to maintain its significance.
As the holiday season approaches so does the expectation to start seeing family, including difficult family members who you would rather avoid. In today's episode we are joined by Alexis Fernandez, the host of the show Do You F***ing Mind, to gain a better understanding of how we can navigate those who we may be related to by blood but have a hard time being around, including:
- Narcissistic parents and in laws
- Jealous family members
- Family members with political differences
- Depressed parents
- Compulsive liars and gossips
- Critical and judgemental family members
- The argument starters and energy vampires
We also provide tips for setting boundaries and actually sticking with them, the courage to stand up for yourself, how to have difficult conversations, knowing when enough is enough and how to walk away, alongside much more. As the holiday season approaches, we are sending you love and strength.
