Misconceptions about Chronic Lyme Disease

A small proportion of individuals with persistent symptoms after Lyme disease treatment are erroneously believed to have a chronic infection, leading them to undergo potentially harmful long-term antibiotic treatments. In reality, these symptoms are likely due to post-treatment tissue damage, known as post-treatment Lyme disease syndrome. This condition affects around 10% of individuals and usually resolves within six months to a year after treatment.
