Raise Your Screen to Keep Alert

Looking straight ahead or upwards increases alertness. This has implications for staying focused and awake. Keeping the screen at eye level or slightly above it optimizes focus and attention. Most workspaces do not take advantage of this fact. To combat sleepiness and lack of focus, elevate the screen of your laptop or tablet to nose level or higher. This can be done by using books, boxes, or wall mounts. Bright lighting and a high screen position help in maintaining focus. It is also possible to elevate the screen by placing pillows on your knees when lying in bed or on the couch. However, it is recommended to avoid working in bed and to keep the bedroom solely for sleeping.
