Leadership: Manipulation vs. Influence

Leadership is about manipulating and influencing people to achieve positive outcomes. Manipulation is seen as negative when it benefits the manipulator at the expense of others. However, influencing someone for a positive outcome is a form of manipulation. Effective leadership involves getting both subordinates and superiors to do what you want, but the ultimate goal is to make them want to do it willingly.
