The Unconscious Competition Between Men and Women & Its Impact on Status
Men and women have different ways of sizing each other up. Women are more conscious of their appearance and social standing, while men tend to have a more unconscious approach. Men may compare physical attributes or possessions, but this competition is often kept in the background. Evolutionarily, this behavior is ingrained in us as a way to determine our place within a hierarchy. However, discussing status or competition is seen as low value and low status, so it is rarely openly discussed.
