Structural homophobia can still persist in society even if people no longer personally hold homophobic beliefs. For instance, individuals may lack the courage to openly associate with gay friends or face workplace discrimination against same-sex partners. Not all forms of bigotry require a personal hatred element; it can manifest through societal structures. The problem arises when people exclusively view social issues through the lens of identity, failing to recognize other contributing factors, such as race driving class disparities in France.
