237. The psychology of shame
The Psychology of your 20s
Shame Is Not Our Origin
Shame is profoundly destructive as it challenges the very essence of our identity, leading us to perceive ourselves as mistakes. Unlike guilt, which can inspire corrective actions and motivation for good behavior, shame is pervasive and often baseless, existing in isolation even when no wrongdoing has occurred. It embeds itself deeper within us, creating a toxic sense of self without a means for release. Importantly, shame is not inherent; none of us are born ashamed. It is taught to us by societal judgments and stigmas regarding aspects like appearance, actions, and identity, such as those faced by the LGBTQIA+ community.
