Establishing a rite of passage into adulthood is crucial as American culture lacks this tradition. To address this gap, one family initiated their own unique rite of passage for their children. This ritual involved symbolic actions such as cutting a red ribbon to represent severing the parental connection, having the first legal drink, and receiving a final financial support check to signify independence. Each child had individualized ceremonies, like consuming advice written on edible paper and transitioning from boyhood to manhood by walking into the ocean.
