**** Understanding Meditation, how it works. **
Meditation involves breaking the spell of identification with thought by gaining perspective on thought as an appearance in consciousness. This leads to feeling consciousness itself as the prior condition in which all experiences appear. It involves noticing the feeling of being a subject in the midst of experiences, which is actually impersonal and on the edge or center of experience. Meditation is about paying close attention to consciousness moment to moment, breaking the spell of thought, and gaining a perspective on thought from the point of view of the prior condition. It is not about getting rid of thoughts, but about having a perspective on them. This process also unravels the mystery of free will by making it apparent that everything, including thoughts and intentions, arises and passes away in consciousness.
