Microbiome Variability and Its Impact on Health and Disease
The human microbiome consists of common genetic microbes that allow healthy gut functioning, but individual variants are substantial. At a strain level, individuals may share only about 10% of the same strains of gut microbes. This variability presents challenges in microbiome science and contributes to the diversity in disease experiences among individuals. Understanding and measuring this variance is crucial in designing experiments and developing future therapies.
