The industrialization of society has led to the diminishing of apprenticeship as the primary way of learning a trade. Traditionally, apprentices would start from the ground up, doing all the necessary grunt work to master a skill. Nowadays, this process has shifted to universities and other institutions, where individuals are expected to enter the workforce at a certain skill level, without much hands-on training.
