Endogenous Cannabinoids

The description of endogenous cannabinoids depends on whether they are naturally produced or activated by external sources like cannabis THC. The two main endogenous cannabinoids are anandamide (EAE) and arachidonylglycerol (AG). These cannabinoids are released from neurons, which are nerve cells that contain neurotransmitter-filled vesicles. When neurons are stimulated, the neurotransmitter is released into the synaptic cleft, allowing it to flow between pre- and postsynaptic neurons.
