NOTE

Break Free from the Loop

Individuals with psychiatric disorders often struggle to break free from negative thought loops due to dysfunction in the default mode network, which is responsible for self-reflection and self-related processing. In contrast, healthy individuals can shift their focus away from negative thoughts when they become unproductive. Additionally, the salience network, which directs attention to external stimuli, is less active when the default mode network is engaged. This lack of balance between internal and external focus can contribute to the challenges faced by those with conditions like depression, OCD, and PTSD.
