The Importance of Allowing Children to Experience Difficulty
Preventing children from experiencing difficulty hinders their development as it hampers their ability to learn and grow. Overprotection and coddling, often by 'helicopter parents,' prevent children from developing necessary skills and capabilities. This lack of exposure to age-appropriate responsibility and challenges can stunt their emotional development and their ability to cope with difficulties as adults. Just like the immune system, which needs exposure to pathogens to develop immunity, children need exposure to challenges to develop their ability to overcome them.
