The pharmaceutical industry faces significant pressure for success, especially following past failures. Current mental health treatments, similar to SSRIs, can numb symptoms but may not be the best long-term solutions for anxiety and depression. Alarmingly, various health conditions have seen dramatic increases over the past 30 years: ADHD has risen by 819%, Alzheimer's by 300%, autism by 2000%, and bipolar disorder in youth has increased dramatically as well. Other conditions like celiac disease, chronic fatigue syndrome, and depression have similarly surged. This highlights a growing health crisis that demands effective pharmaceutical interventions.
