At different stages of life, the concept of identity evolves. In the early stages, having a healthy sense of identity is important, especially for children. However, as one grows older, the idea of identity changes. It becomes less about being someone and more about having an open hand and letting go of the need for a fixed identity. Pride is an emotion that plays a different role at different stages of life. For children, it is appropriate to feel pride in certain moments, while as an adult, pride does not align with the idea of being responsible for one's gifts and successes. Instead, gratitude becomes the primary positive emotion, as there is a recognition of the role luck plays in life and the things to be grateful for. The puzzle piece of pride eventually needs to be outgrown as the game of identity evolves.
