NOTE

The Effect of Threat on Perception of Time

Our brain processes life like a continuous movie, but under threat, it views things frame by frame. This slows down our perception of time. A clever experiment by neuroscientist David Eagleman showed that people's perception of time differed when watching others fall on a ride compared to actually being on the ride. When watching, they estimated it took half a second, but when on the ride, they thought it took three seconds. This demonstrates that our perception of time can slow down under threat or physical instability.
