One effective method for breaking habits is to reduce stimuli that trigger the behavior. This can be achieved by not being exposed to the stimuli connected to the reward, such as keeping the phone in another room or storing video game controllers out of sight. Removing tempting applications from devices also helps in reducing stimuli. By limiting exposure to triggers, the neurochemical urge to engage in the habit is not activated.
