In my fun intervention, Catherine challenged me to try a new hobby, preferably something I'd be bad at. I was terrified because as a busy adult, I rarely take on new challenges. Plus, I tend to criticize myself when I'm not instantly good at something. This combination of fear and self-judgment kills the fun. It makes me self-conscious, inhibits playfulness, and hinders connection. Worst of all, it disrupts my flow. Negative self-talk overwhelms my mind with thoughts of how terrible I am at it.

Natalie felt fun was being squeezed out of her busy life... but she found inspiration in the two episodes of The Happiness Lab dedicated to Dr Laurie Santos's own quest to regain the fun and playfulness of her youth.
So here's another opportunity to listen to the concluding part of that story again.
