NOTE

Collectivization's Illusion of Incentives

Collectivization in the Soviet Union ultimately failed due to the loss of incentives for agricultural productivity. Individual farmers, motivated by personal gain, would naturally strive to maximize their output, whereas employees of state-run agricultural enterprises lacked the same entrepreneurial drive. This system fostered a culture of pretense, where workers nominally fulfilled their duties without genuine productivity. As a result, despite possessing fertile land, the Soviet Union became reliant on grain imports, highlighting the inefficiencies and disincentives embedded in the collectivized agricultural model.
