Friction is essential for movement and progress. Ice skates work because although they minimize friction, some level of it is still necessary for leverage and pushing off. This concept applies to life as well; having something to push off against helps in changing directions, accelerating, and moving towards goals. Friction is like the oar in water, necessary to move the boat forward.
