The Root Causes and Fixes for Brain Fog

The Dr. Hyman Show

NOTE

Exploring the Link Between Gut Dysfunction and Brain Fog

The gut is closely connected to the brain, even leading to psychosis in severe cases. Gut dysfunction can result in auto-brewery syndrome causing individuals to have high blood alcohol levels without drinking. Testing for this can be done with a 'pancake challenge.' Additionally, infections and allergies, including food and environmental allergies like mold, can contribute to brain fog and cognitive dysfunction. Mast cell activation syndrome, releasing high levels of histamine, can also be a factor. Histamine acting as a neurotransmitter can cause brain fog, alleviated by antihistamines. Medications like chromalinsodium, originally for asthma and allergies, are showing success in treating severe cases of brain fog.
