The concept of Hormesis and intentional application of pain for beneficial effects
Hormesis is the study of administering small to moderate doses of painful stimuli, such as cold, heat, radiation, and exercise, to produce beneficial effects on the body. This intentional application of pain has a historical basis in treating pain in ancient history. For example, intentionally putting the body into stress, like through a cold plunge, can increase the nervous system's resilience and overall calmness. The concept suggests that using small pain to treat big pain can be legitimately helpful and healthy.
