Habits consist of a trigger, routine, and reward. To change a habit, identify the trigger causing the routine, and modify it. By replacing the old routine with a new pattern, after repeating it for about three to five times, a new habit is formed. Changing a habit can be emotionally challenging, evoking feelings such as anger, sadness, and anxiety. However, by persisting and repeating the new behavior, the new habit gradually becomes comfortable and leads to positive outcomes, like weight loss.
