Research supports the effectiveness of lactate supplementation strategies such as sodium bicarbonate and beta-alanine, both of which mitigate acid buildup in muscles. Beta-alanine raises carnosine levels, serving as an acid buffer that enhances muscular endurance during various exercise durations. Sodium bicarbonate provides a similar effect by absorbing excess hydrogen ions, raising muscle pH and delaying acid-induced fatigue. However, caution is necessary as sodium bicarbonate may also lead to gastrointestinal distress.
