Fasting 02: To Grow in Holiness
Rule of Life
Ancient views on food and sin
The ancients viewed the stomach and appetite as either a possible enemy or ally in the fight against sin. They believed that the stomach was the portal through which sin enters your life. They noted a symbiotic connection between unrestrained bodily appetites for food and for sex, and saw that food could be an enemy or an ally in the fight against sin. Fasting was a way for them to turn the stomach and the appetite from an enemy into an ally.
