Large levels of immigration can lead to wage costs for native-born workers and recent immigrants in the U.S., according to a 2017 report from the National Academy of Sciences. The increased supply of labor due to immigration tends to lower wages, as evidenced by numerous studies. For instance, areas with higher immigration due to the 1994 Mexican peso crisis experienced worse wage outcomes. Additionally, studies show that teenagers in regions with less immigration tend to work more and earn higher wages.
