Taking Action to Change Emotional State and the As If Principle

To change my emotional state, I need to take action and be action-oriented. It's not just about being positive. I model the behavior of a positive person to become one. There's a principle called the as if principle which suggests that if I act the way I want to be, I will become that person. The Duschen smile, a smile associated with true happiness, is physiologically based on specific muscle movements. By doing a Duschen smile, it can actually make me feel happier. To simulate a Duschen smile, I can bite down on a pencil for 20 seconds. This is an example of the as if principle. By asking what a happier or grateful person would do in a situation and acting accordingly, I can change my emotions.
