Sleep need, as measured by Whoop, is the difference between the sleep you needed and what you actually got. Research shows that for every 45 minutes of sleep debt accrued, there is a 10% decline in working memory and executive function the next day. This decline can reach up to 20-30% for CEOs who often have around three hours of sleep debt. The study also found a strong correlation between sleep need and performance variables like working memory. Additionally, psychological safety was significantly linked to sleep debt, as tested through a psychological safety survey.
