The Controversial Trial of Pelagius for Heretical Opinions
Pelagius, an associate of Chylestius, was condemned by the church council in Carthage. Accused of heresy, Pelagius was put on trial before the bishop of Jerusalem, where he was acquitted. However, he faced another trial at a church synod for propagating the heretical belief that humans could be sinless with enough effort. In his defense, Pelagius claimed that while such belief was foolish, it was not heretical as there was no definitive doctrine on the issue.
