The term spiritual experience encompasses self-transcendent, transformative, mystical and spiritual experiences./nThere is a two-part definition for spiritual experience consisting of substantially altered state of consciousness and a seeming perception of an unseen order of some kind./nThe second part of the definition is necessary to distinguish the experience from normal shifts in cognition, affect and perception./nFor many people, the unseen order perceived during a spiritual experience is God.
